Jim Oberwetter Ain’t Happy With Greg Abbott

|

Jim Oberwetter is the president of the Dallas Regional Chamber. He’s kind of a big deal. So when he and Bill Thornton, his Fort Worth counterpart, write a public letter to Attorney General Greg Abbott, taking issue with Abbott’s challenge to the merger of American Airlines and US Airways, we should at least post this excerpt:

As representatives of the business community, we wholeheartedly believe in competition. By any stretch of the imagination, having what the press refers to as “the World’s Largest Airline” based in Texas, makes our state more competitive. If this merger is not finalized, there is no plan B for American Airlines. Failing to allow American Airlines to merge with US Airways will result in further bankruptcy proceedings that will stretch for an extended period of time. In addition, service and employees will suffer, causing financial dislocations around DFW International Airport, one of the world’s busiest and a critical hub of global business in Texas.

Abbott, he’s probably just enjoying the publicity.
