Dallas Morning News Will Get Rid of Its Paywall and Debut New Premium Site in September

|

I asked some head honchos today about what newsroom sources have been telling me for weeks: that the DMN is switching to a “premium” site for subscribers and will do away with its paywall in September. Other newspapers are doing this. Said honchos have yet to get back to me. Which I was fine with, until a newsroom buddy told me, “So I think they’re working on that story now that you’ve asked questions.”

Look for the story soon. Saves me the work. I haven’t seen it, but newsroom types who have say the subscriber site looks much, much better than the current site. I’m not sure if it will be metered, or if it will have content not available on the non-subscriber site. I am pretty sure that, once I started nosing around, the newsroom was asked to do a story so they could be the ones who broke it. And DADDY DON’T PLAY THAT WAY.
