Taya Kyle, widow of former Navy SEAL and American Sniper author Chris Kyle, addressed the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association in Houston on Friday. Her tearful speech (which begins at about the 2:15 mark in the video above) recalled the man that Kyle was and the importance of guns in his life. She thanked NRA members for safeguarding American freedom:
“I challenge anyone to tell me there isn’t evil in this world. From the days of Cain and Abel, we know all too well there will always be evil, but that evil shouldn’t take away our freedoms. In fact, the only way to take away evil is by taking advantage of those freedoms,” she said. “America needs people like you who are willing to stand up and fight.”
Mrs. Kyle also mentioned that she helped to finish the book that Chris had been working on at the time of his death. She said it’s coming out this June. Called American Gun, it tells the story of “10 iconic guns and the people who used them, altering the course of United States history.”
She closed with another rally cry for the Second Amendment:
“When I see a gun used in an act of pure evil, against someone who’s defenseless, I will remember, long before guns, people have tragically hurt and killed one another,” she said. “I will pray for God to keep us all strong, and I will thank you for using your time and energy to ensure that Americans remain free, fully prepared to feed ourselves, defend ourselves, and ultimately win the battle of good vs. evil.”
