Don’t Blink or You’ll Miss the W Expressway

|

So, that proposal before the Legislature to rename seven miles of U.S. 75 for George W. Bush has been downsized. Instead of seven miles of Central, only about three miles—from Knox/Henderson to Northwest Highway—will be known as the George W. Bush Expressway come September, pending a signature on the measure by Gov. Rick Perry.

Heck, W’s dad, George H.W., got a whole turnpike named after him. Dedicating just this short stretch seems sort of, well, chintzy. If he’d found a few WMDs, would W have gotten his name on the whole enchilada? If he’d offed bin Laden and wrapped up Iraq quicker? This hardly seems worth the trouble. Especially to the nearby business owners who will have to order new stationery and business cards. Maybe Perry should help W save face and just veto the thing.
