Wired Looks at Shane Carruth’s Wonderfully Confusing Upstream Color

In our April issue, we’ve got a short piece on Shane Carruth and his new film, Upstream Color. Shane is the guy who made the Sundance winner Primer and then disappeared for a decade (Adam McGill profiled Carruth for us in 2004). Our April story was written by Peter Simek. I read it late in our production cycle (not to suggest that Peter would ever turn in a story late, no never, really). When I finished it, I said, “Crap. We should have run this story longer. Like, I’d read another 4,000 words.” Well, Wired has 3,700 of those words. Really great read. I can’t wait to see Carruth’s movie. Here’s what Steven Soderbergh says about it: “I don’t even try to describe it to people. I go, ‘You’ve just gotta see this thing, and then we’ll talk after.’”
