Maybe It’s Time For a New Name For This Alley

Now taking suggestions. “Garbage Alley” is the frontrunner, but probably will lose its lead in the popular vote.

Either that or we start naming all alleys: “The One That Blows Warm Pizza Fumes Onto You;” “Shortcut Nobody Knows Because It’s Super Dark Alley;” “Continuous River of Dirty Soap Alley.”

    Kirstie Alley

And yet there is no sign or marker honoring where 5 Dallas firemen died extinguishing a restaurant fire in 1964 – to this date it is the worst loss in Dallas Fire Dept history. Ugh.

While we’re on the subject of formerly paid-attention-to alleys, what about Dallas Alley? I was a kid during the halcyon days of the West End, so I suppose I don’t really get the significance attached to a statue of Buddy Holly’s glasses peppered with chewed pieces of gum, but it had to have been a big deal at some point right?

If anybody has any links to info about the area, I’d be very interested. The Starck Club/Deep Ellum boom era of early 90’s Dallas fascinates me.

“Alley I Use To Get To City Tavern When I Park by CVS on Commerce” has a nice ring to it. Mostly, it’s the ring of truth.

Sorry to be the wet blanket, but exactly what is wrong with preserving history where we can?

I actually couldn’t agree more, actually.

And by “Commerce,” I mean “Elm,” of course.

And here I thought that Harry Hines Blvd. was the place where names like Exchange + Money + Four Way were usually found.

What about “alley of gators”? And another alley we could refer to as “alley of lions”, and then another as “alley of giraffes”, maybe? We could turn all alleys’ in downtown into some type of safari thing. I’m thinking this might just be what gets downtown hoping again. Just my 2 cents folks.

Cesar Chavez Alley is really the only option.

  • BradfordPearson

Ha, I was going to let that slide. New leaves, etc.

    Klyde Warren Alley?

  • Steve Zimmerman

No way! “Money Alley” is so money!

  • Justin B.

Wow, this is excellent. I like the ad for the Australian Outback coat in there too. Thanks a ton!
