Tony Mitchell Picked as Preseason All-American

|

College basketball season starts in earnest tonight, which means absolutely nothing in such a football-crazy state. But, for people across the country (including me and this other proud former Saint Joseph’s student) it’s the best time of the year.

That’s especially true in Denton this year, where North Texas center/forward Tony Mitchell is expected to be the school’s first-ever NBA draft pick next spring. Until he gets shuttled off to Memphis or Salt Lake City, he’ll be up in Denton, making Sun Belt Conference opponents wish they’d just taken their fathers’ advice and not walked on to the basketball team.

The Pinkston High grad was picked as a second team preseason All-American this week by ESPN, and Rick Gosselin at the Morning News spent some time with him as well.
