In our March issue, which is on newsstands tomorrow, you’ll see a section called Excellence in Nursing Awards. We asked hospitals, patients, and nurses to fill out a really lengthy nomination form for nurses they thought deserved some recognition. We got 349 nominations. From those nominations, we had a panel narrow the list down to 86 finalists and 21 winners. Last night, we had a dinner at the Westin Galleria to recognize all the wonderful work nurses do and to announce the winners.
It was one of the best events I’ve attended. The crowd was amazing. Whenever emcee Gloria Campos called a finalist’s name, there was cheering. When everyone got to the stage, there was cheering. When a winner was announced, there were standing ovations–and tears. And not just from the winners, but from the audience. (I may have been among those teary-eyed folks more than a few times.) Nurses do such wonderful work, and it was great to see them gather with friends, family, and co-workers to be recognized. I was honored to talk to a few of them for the piece in the magazine. Read those profiles in the magazine, and see some of the stories from both winners and finalists in this video above, produced by Beyond. And go thank a nurse who has taken care of you.
