I think we can all agree that one of the most genius things in the history of the internet is the website that went up last night called didthelakersgetswept.com. I’ll wait for you to follow the link. Done? Okay, now let’s dive in for a quick Q&A with the site’s creator, Brad Benites:
10:37 AM me: You got a sec, Brad?
Brad: sure do
me: What part of Alaska do you live in, and how did a Mavs fan (I assume you’re a fan) wind up there?
10:39 AM Brad: haha, well, actually, I don’t live in Alaska. I currently live in Arizona, but lived in Dallas for three years and became a big Mavs fine while I was there. I changed the address on my godaddy.com account to a fake Alaskan address, just in case Andrew Bynum didn’t like the site and decided to go all “Barea” on me
10:40 AM *fan not fine
me: Nice work. You can never be too careful. What sort of traffic is the site generating?
10:42 AM Brad: I put up the site around 7 PM last night, and it went viral pretty quickly on all the social media platforms. So far it’s had over 50k page views, but it’s quickly gaining momentum. Right now, I’m seeing over 1000 new visitors every 30 minutes.
10:43 AM me: All for lulz? No way to make some cheddar on this idea?
10:44 AM Brad: haha, no cash yet, unless D Magazine wants to sponsor it 🙂
me: We’re broke. Sorry. Not gonna happen. You ever done anything like this before? And what’s your day job?
10:46 AM Brad: I’ve made some pretty lame attempts at websites in the past, the most noteworthy (or non-noteworthy depending on how you look at it) being twoogel.com – which is a pretty terrible twitter search engine
10:47 AM my “real” job is working at a big aerospace and defense company, doing nothing related to websites
10:48 AM me: You build missiles? Tell me you build missiles.
10:49 AM Brad: yes, I build missiles. So, technically, I guess I could put my address back on godaddy. I’m probably safe.
10:50 AM me: Okay, one final question: in your considered opinion, did the Lakers get swept?
Brad: I think there’s a website for that 😉
me: Thanks, man. Go, Mavs!
10:51 AM Brad: Thanks, Tim!
