Video of the High School Hockey Brawl

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the video that a lot of people are talking about. It shows the brawl between the teams from Keller and Arlington Martin last weekend. You can read more about what happened here. My take is that the kid in the black sweater deserved payback — but he certainly didn’t deserve to have his jaw broken. And, along with what the Musers said on The Ticket this morning, it’s an interesting question whether assault charges ought to be filed. You can bet that a civil suit is already in the works.

Update: The video has been taken down, as you can see.

One important lesson we can – and should – learn from this whole incident is that it’s funny when chubby people fall down.

The dude in the black deserved everything he got. He’s lucky the guy he slammed into the boards didnt break his neck.

If this had been a soccer fight, no one actually would have been hit but every player would have been rolling around on the field as though they had been.

When you’re down 9-3 in the closing moments of a freakin’ hockey game, and you attack players on the other team, then I think that warrants assault charges. And anyone who takes a running start across the ice and launches himself at another player deserves an assault charge as well. That was the dirtiest stuff I’ve seen in a while. This is a week that the UIL must be glad it has nothing to do with hockey.

I was ready to condemn the guy in white based on early media reports, but after seeing the video I understand why the guy in white “did what he do.” The guy in black was pretty vicious himself and he instigated the situation. Neither was in was in the right.

Now you see it, now you don’t.

I say just send this silly sport back to the Canadians. This is Texas for chris’ sakes! I mean the only time we ever see ice in this town is during a Super Bowl and we all know that this type of behavior NEVER happens at a blessed Texas football game. Honestly, who really thinks that giving blades and sticks to a bunch of Texas teenagers and throwing them in a ring full of ice is a good idea?

JB has a point. One reason I’ve never been a hockey fan is that the players spend their time swinging long sticks really hard. And then they get all ticked off when they take a whack to the noggin. Or the wrist. Or the throat. It’s a game wrapped in a reason to be violent. No thanks.
