Dwaine Caraway Changes Story About Incident

Poor Archie and Arthur, the erstwhile Cowboys and Eagles fans that were blamed for the presence of the police at Councilman Dwaine Caraway’s house last week.

As it turns out, Archie and Arthur were not the reason Caraway called Dallas Police Chief David Brown to send officers to his house, after all. It turns out that the police report was correct all along – it was a spat between Caraway and his wife, State Rep. Barbara Mallory Caraway.

In a statement today, Caraway admits the two had a fight, and says he overreacted. He then pleaded for privacy from the council and the public so the two can get to their 50th wedding anniversary (they’re currently in year 16).

Maybe it’s just me, but after you put a call in to the police chief himself to break up your marital spat, and then contradict a police report with a story about your friends Archie and Arthur, isn’t it a little hard to put that particular cat back in its bag?

“Statement”? Caraway owes the police, the media, and the public an apology. He lied, and he tried to claim it was the police who mischaracterized the situation.

  • Are we sure that Caraway Seed’s troubles aren’t really linked to, say, the anti-alcohol effort? http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/politics/local/stories/121910dnmetcaraway.379cddb.html

Finances. Money. Questions about it…hmm. Nah, might have been just an isolated incident a la Rufus Shaw.

  • Connor

If, in some alternate universe or strange, tormented dream, the Andy Griffith Show had originally been scripted by Princeton’s Cornel West instead, its starring sheriff would be Dwayne Caraway with Dr. West himself playing the role of Deputy Barney Fife – but as an anapestic, one man Greek chorus.

Excellent recap of Episode One. What’s up in Episode Two?

  • downtowner

Shoddy reporting; no mention of whether Mrs. Caraway was wearing saggy pants at the time of the incident.

  • JS

It’s nice that Dwaine himself has now confirmed for everyone that he’s a liar.

    Connor: Well, since you asked:
Caraway sheepishly admits – off the record – to a reporter that Arthur and Archie don’t actually exist. Only, later, he gets home to find a dead rat, gift wrapped, on the doorstep. A card reads, “From your friends, Arthur and Archie.” Scared out of his mind, he calls the police chief, only to find that every single call goes straight to voice mail. He tries hitting him up on Facebook, but finds that Brown has unfriended him. A quick glance at Twitter discovers he’s not only been unfollowed, BUT BLOCKED AND REPORTED AS SPAM.

Dejected, and still scared, he sits in his car, waiting for his wife to come home from Austin, hoping she will dispose of the rat. He looks toward the doorstep, shudders, and turns the key in the ignition one more time, heading to Tom Thumb, which, thank God, has beer, since thousands of Dallas residents voted to make the whole damned town wet.

Dallas is cruel man, and he has no clue what Archie and Arthur look like …

That’s the best I can do. I’m no Zac Crain. Well, except for the facial hair.

  • Me!

I think it is very misleading that the transcribed statement in the linked story modified the grammar and deleted words from the spoken statement.

  • Wes Mantooth as Ron Burgundy

Dwaine Caraway should pull up his pants because he’s showing his bass (minus the b).

  • bluebird

He comes off as not only half-insane but also with a pretty
    big sense of entitlement.

  • Grumpy Demo

So being a City Councilman entitles you to call the Chief of Police to help with your fight with you wife?

    Yeah, no abuse of power.

  • just another city council person, he fits in nicely…

  • Party Girl

Bethany – where is your buddy, Michael Davis? Davis is (was?) Carraway’s BFF, but our favorite “social media beast” has been strangely silent on his blog and this Web site. Has he stopped visiting D’s office?

  • Bethany, you shouldn’t refer to as Councilman Caraway as a “cat.”

  • Caraway is terrible…
