Words With Friends Creators Bounced From D Magazine Words With Friends Tournament

By Jason Heid |

Cover Image Sure, they’re young. They’re successful. They’re featured on the cover of the June issue of D Magazine.

But did you know that brothers Paul and David Bettner – the men responsible for Words With Friends – aren’t the world’s best Words With Friends players?  It’s true. Neither of them survived the first round of our tournament. David fell to educator Jane Cote by a score of 323 to 411. Paul lost a close match to Luis Ellis, 330 to 343.

Not only that, but of the seven representatives of Newtoy Inc. (the company behind the game) who appeared in our tournament, only one – concept artist Jessica Oyhenart – has advanced to round 2.

The representatives of the D Magazine Empire fared somewhat better, with three of our five players winning their games.
