May Sweeps End With Channel 11 on Top

|

Last night ended the 20-weeknight sweeps period, and CBS Channel 11 couldn’t send out the press release fast enough. For its 10 o’clock newscast, it came it at No. 1 for total viewers, households, and adults 25 to 54 for the first time in the station’s history. The thing that shocks me about this is that CW33 didn’t win sweeps because I know a lot of people were tuning in to learn about that couple that promised to have sex every day for a month. Best laid plans …

Anyway, here’s the release from Channel 11:

CBS 11 IS DALLAS-FORT WORTH’S MOST-WATCHED LATE NEWS

Weekday CBS 11 News at 10 is #1 in Total Viewers, Households and Adults 25-54 for the First Time in Station History

Dallas/Fort Worth — More people watched the weekday CBS 11 News at 10 than any other late newscast in Dallas-Fort Worth during the most recent May “sweeps.”

This marks the first time in the station’s history that KTVT’s Monday through Friday late news is number one in all three key demographics: total viewers, households and adults 25-54 in a major sweep. The station took first place in total viewers and households for the first time in a major sweeps period in November 2009.

“Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the most competitive late news markets in the country,” said CBS 11 President and General Manager Gary Schneider, “which makes us appreciate this victory even more. Most of all, we are grateful to our viewers for making us number one.”

CBS 11’s weekday late news averaged 195,270 viewers (persons 2+) versus second-place WFAA’s 190,710.

In households, the weekday CBS 11 News at 10 averaged 141,020 as compared to 138,960 for runner-up WFAA’s News 8 Update.

Among adults 25-54, CBS 11’s weekday late news averaged 79,240 versus second-place NBC5’s 76,110.

In other news dayparts, CBS 11 News has made notable gains, as well:

6 p.m. — CBS 11 News at 6 is now out of first place by just 90 total viewers; 4,580 households and 18,640 adults 25-54. By comparison, the difference just one year ago was 52,520 total viewers; 35,560 households and 29,120 adults 25-54.

5 a.m. — CBS 11 News This Morning is in first place among adults 25-54 and is just 310 households/1,030 total viewers out of first. For the entire 5 to 7 a.m. time block, CBS 11 is now behind first place NBC5 by only 29,680 total viewers; 21,080 households and 19,900 adults 25-54. In May 2009, the gap was 56,430 total viewers; 41,590 households and 35,230 adults.
