Barrett Wissman Continues to Enjoy Himself

|

You know who can’t be happy about this Wall Street Journal story detailing the summertime fun enjoyed by Barrett Wissman? All the people he ratted out to the feds. While folks like political consultant Hank Morris and former New York state pension fund honcho David Loglisci wait to see how much jail time they’ll face, admitted felon Barrett Wissman is living it up in Italy, hanging out with Anthony Hopkins. One of my favorite parts of the story is the following:

He was able to enjoy the week-long festival — and a visit to Florence — because his plea agreement didn’t include travel restrictions, as long as he alerts authorities of his plans. With family in the U.S., he is deemed not to be a flight risk, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Let’s see. Wissman speaks seven languages. At least until recently, he had a house in Italy. He has business ties to Singapore and any number of islands on which he has established offshore companies. His wife is Russian. He owes the feds $12 million. And, if you believe this, he’s in the process of obtaining a Dubai passport. Naw, doesn’t sound like a flight risk at all.
