Leading Off (7/8/09)

1. Time spent in traffic is down for the first time in years, primarily due to gas prices and the recession. We now spend about 53 hours a year in traffic in Texas, down from 55 a year ago. We spent about 33 hours in traffic as recently as 1995. My commute takes about 12 minutes, but I spend about four of those minutes screaming at people to get the eff out of my way, so … you do the math.

2. Valerie Wigglesworth reports that police found two guns (Trey, if you must know: a 44-caliber Fillipietta black powder and a 1m1-Uzi Eagle 9 mm) and five bottles of steroids at the home of a Frisco man who shot at them last week while they were performing a welfare check. That’s right: Wigglesworth.

3. And Dallas County officials voted to settle the last two lawsuits brought against it because of poor jail conditions, giving the families of two neglected inmates nearly a half million dollars total.
