1. Construction on the Trinity toll road looks like it’s going to be delayed by at least 20 months and cost another $29 million in testing since the dikes failed a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’  inspection. Coming up with the money and adhering to such a tight schedule–especially if there are huge things that need to be fixed — could be tough. My suggestion: Tom Leppert, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Eddie Bernice Johnson should play some inspiring music during today’s press conference — maybe “Tomorrow” from Annie.

2. The Van Cliburn 2009 finalists were announced today. The final six will each perform several times — both solo and with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra — Wednesday through Sunday. I don’t really know for whom to root. I’m still reeling from the fact that Zac Efron won an acting award over Christian Bale and Robert Downey Jr. on last night’s MTV Movie Awards. And Jim Carrey for Yes Man? I don’t get it.

3. Rockwall’s Lori Stevens runs Patriot Paws, a non-profit program that allows (properly vetted) female inmates to train AKC-registered canines for disabled veterans. Dogs + atonement + war heroes receiving help=no snark from me. Go here to learn more.
