1. After a somewhat contentious three-hour debate on Wednesday, the City Council decided to vote next week on the proposed expanded smoking ban. After yet another debate, of course. I’ll just say what I always do — smoking is awesome — and let you guys take it from there.
2. Speaking of cancer, noted NBA locker-room tumor Stephon Marbury is probably going to be a free agent soon. The Mavericks have been listed by many as a possible destination for Starbury, and some people actually want this to happen. Here’s a quick look at players I’d rather the Mavs sign: everyone in the history of ever.
3. Back to the smoking ban. If the ordinance passes, Dave Levinthal writes, “[a]t the least, city staff would need time — perhaps up to a few months — to educate bar and billiard hall owners on the ordinance before enforcing it, interim Assistant City Manager Forest Turner said. ‘It’d be an exchange. They’d ask questions; we’d answer them. We’d help educate them on the law,’ Mr. Turner said.” Really? I’d love to get in on that. “Can they smoke Parliaments? No? What about Marlboros? Okay. What if they roll their own? Fine, whatever. Oooooh — what if it’s one of those movie cigarettes that’s just a bunch of herbs or something? No? Alright. Hmmm. American Spirits?” And so on. I think I could keep that up for at least three to seven months.
