Perry: Texans To Keep Buying Pickups

While gas prices have forced a nationwide downturn in the sale of full-size pickups, Toyota Motor is thanking its lucky stars for the state of Texas. Toyota’s actually gained sales and market share for its Tundra truck in the Lone State State–in part thanks to good ol’ boys like Gov. Rick Perry. According to Donald V. Esmond, senior VP-automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Perry explained it to him this way: “Hey, Texans ain’t gonna stop buying pickup trucks, because you can’t put a bale of hay in the back of a Prius.” Esmond was in town today for an event at the State Fair, where Toyota unveiled its new Venza crossover vehicle.

I beg to differ. A hay bale would fit in my Prius.

  2. Mike says:

    A round bale?

    Prove it.

I’d like to stuff Perry UNDER a Prius, or a Tundra, or maybe a Dart Bus!

I’m sure the high Tundra sales have something to do with the most annoying commercial ever that currently running every three minutes on The Ticket — “I’m a haaaaaard, workin’ maaaaaaaaaayn!”

    Shoot me.

What can Tim stuff in his Prius – a photo essay?

  7. Don in Austin says:

Tim is correct. A prius will carry 2 bales of hay and still get 45 mph. Not so good on rutted pasture roads, though.

@Bethany: Enjoy your visit in our fair city.

I can’t even fit a Chicken Dinner in my Prius.
