If Not June Jones, Then Mike Martz?

The DMN college blog is reporting that SMU has also talked with Mike Martz, the former St. Louis Rams head coach and the offensive genius who brought us the 2007 implosion known as the Detroit Lions. As an alum, I think that would be an awesome hire, because I would make it my business to go to press conferences and ask the notoriously arrogant Martz questions like, “Why didn’t you get more out of Drew Stanton?”

UPDATE: I’d like it known I would consider the position of head coach if offered it. I, too, believe in tricked-up offenses to help overcome a lack of talent. I’m a master of the swinging gate offense. If it’s run properly, you can’t defend it.

boo swinging gate and all other un-American formations.

whatever happened to Fran at SMU? e-newsletter GOLD MINE

  2. Would his arrogance be welcomed at SMU? What’s he done…he got a super bowl ring because of Dick Vermeil.

  3. Bildo says:

No, you have to have talent to run the wishbone effectively.

  4. Spamboy says:

I’m thinking SMU should switch over to six-man football. That way, the half-dozen fans in the stands would have something to do besides out-douche each other at Yale Blvd. bars.

Either that, or hire Coach Tom Foolery!

  5. Robb says:

Doesn’t matter who they hire, they can still beat OU in a BCS bowl. Everybody else does.

  6. AJ says:

They should just pick the starting offense/defense/coach/etc. every Sat morning and go with it. It’d be more exciting to watch that then whatever else they’ll try to toss out there and they’d probably lose by the same amount of points as they do now. Pony up…
