The DMN college blog is reporting that SMU has also talked with Mike Martz, the former St. Louis Rams head coach and the offensive genius who brought us the 2007 implosion known as the Detroit Lions. As an alum, I think that would be an awesome hire, because I would make it my business to go to press conferences and ask the notoriously arrogant Martz questions like, “Why didn’t you get more out of Drew Stanton?”
UPDATE: I’d like it known I would consider the position of head coach if offered it. I, too, believe in tricked-up offenses to help overcome a lack of talent. I’m a master of the swinging gate offense. If it’s run properly, you can’t defend it.
