It’s fairly shocking that one of the biggest local stories in recent years – the Dallas City Hall scandal – has been out for three days and not one word has appeared on FrontBurner. I have a theory on this: it is a prime example of the “wussification” of race reporting. No young, white reporter who has grown up in the Age of Political Correctness dares commenting lest someone (and there always is a someone)Â brand them a racist. The net effect is that we have almost completely killed intelligent discourse on race relations in this country.
It is a subject we need to talk about, especially in Dallas. As for the City Hall controversy, I don’t think this is a “sad day for Dallas” as the The DMN boldly printed on their front page. I think it is a proud day. If there are scumbags thieving from the public coffers and we expose them and punish them, then the rule of law is upheld and we are all better off. It was true with Paul Fielding (convicted white guy) and it is true with any black, Hispanic, Asian, or Pacific Islander. Wrong is wrong. So the next time a rich developer (who in this case happens to be white) approaches city officials about gaining favorable tax treatments, hopefully that city official, no matter what their race happens to be, will go report the criminal behavior instead of participating in it.
