Tim, try not to be so Ann Coulter for a moment. I understand you are defensive about D Magazine, but I’m not attacking D (we all love that about you, by the way). I’m talking about race and FrontBurner, and I don’t think that publishing the defense of the key white defendant in the case constitutes a big discussion. Actions speak louder than words, and so do inactions. For three days we said almost nothing about this case which is rocking the southern corridor. That illustrates a certain disconnect, and disconnects lead to poor relations.
The heroin story in D is a great piece. It cuts across all racial and socioeconomic lines because down deep, every parent fears that their kid might get hooked on that insidious drug and flush their life away. Our common concern about this plague ties us together. For many in Dallas, the abysmal race relations that polarize white/black/Hispanic groups from each other is also a plague. And I don’t see it getting any better unless we talk about it.
