I Was Recording My Own Live Album at the Time

By |

Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) has been in town recently, finishing up a few projects with producer-engineer-swell guy Stuart Sikes (including a sequel to her fantastic The Covers Record). Might have heard that already. You may not have been aware, however, unless you were in attendance, that her August 17 show at the Granada Theater was being taped. In fact, when the regular show ended, Marshall invited the crowd to stick around, as she and the band were going to re-record a few of the numbers they’d flubbed the first time. (I guess most people thought she was joking, since half the crowd split.)

So … can we expect a Live from the Granada Theater disc to emerge sometime later this year or early next? Perhaps. If so, it will be the most notable live album with a local provenance since James Brown tore it up and turned it out here way back in the day. If not, I’d imagine the tracks will end up available somehow somewhere. They always do.
