Attention Font Geeks

|

Was just catching up on my NYT Sunday Magazine and was excited to see “The Road to Clarity” about the genesis and creators of Clearview, a new font for highway signs. (There’s a nifty slide show accompanying it.) The new font is more legible to older drivers and counters night glow much better than the font its replacing, Highway Gothic. Some states, the article mentions, have been quicker to adopt the new signage than others. Its author singles out I-80 in Western Pennsylvania and the roads around Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Go, us.
