That Fence Along the Border? Blame D Contributor Todd Bensman

|

Yesterday, the Senate passed a $3 billion amendment to a Homeland Security bill. The bill will increase the amount of fencing along the border and hire more immigration agents. Anyway, yesterday on the floor of the Senate, Senator John Cornyn referenced Todd Bensman’s San Antonio Express News series “Breaching America.” (Basically Bensman found that consulates from Latin American countries allow all sorts of shady Middle Easterners into their countries, which are, you know, not too far from our country and its porous borders. Ergo, the United States is harboring terrorists, if you want to extend the logic, and Cornyn certainly does.) How persuasive was Cornyn’s argument? The amendment passed 89-1. Bensman, who writes mostly about the FBI for us, was thrilled that his series made it into a Senate debate. “This doesn’t happen every day,” he writes.

Somewhere, probably in Alabama, Rod Davis is fuming.
