Hey, it’s Friday. Let’s not get all ambitious and, you know, “Lead Off” today. Instead, why don’t we take a casual attitude toward work and just check the ol’ e-mail inbox for something to post.
Oh, here’s something. Local boys right, national boy wrong. The DMN clears up the Sporting News comment about the Mavs’ mid-level exception. (Notice, by the way, how the DMN still uses that dated 1980s-style tactic of not naming the “competition,” even though that makes this note more confusing that it needs to be. As though “the Internet” is just one big bulletin board. But I digress.)
There is some misinformation on the Internet stating that the Mavericks had to dip into their mid-level exception to re-sign Devean George. That’s not the case, however, as George signed a one-year deal Thursday at a 20 percent increase of last year’s salary. His pay for next season will be about $2.336 million. Had it been for more than a 20 percent increase, it would have come out of the mid-level. But the Mavericks still have the full $5.3 million to work with, as well as their $1.8 million exception that teams get every other year.
