Re: Observer Music Awards Observed

|

A local-music-supporting FrontBurnervian writes:

Lots of good music on the awards this year. People like to complain, but there are some really talented people on that ballot. Sarah Jaffe and Doug Burr are prominent nominees. I have seen an entire room of people stop what they are doing to listen to them sing. Salim Nourallah, John Dufilho, JD Whittenburg, Johnny Llloyd Rollins. There is a lot of talent in this city. If people would bother to pay the 5-7 buck cover they could see all original music any night of the week here. For instance, JD Whittenburg has a cd release at the Sons of Herman Hall Friday night.

A cynic might say, “Yeah, there are a ton of great bands to see, just no place to see them.” (Save for Granada, Sons, and even House of Blues — okay, and, fine, The Cavern and Barley. Oh, and Lee Harvey’s, natch.) But that’s a topic for another time.
