TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO AIR, DIVINE.

|

Last night, the House of Blues played host to the event I’m going to go out on a limb and call the best $14 I’ve ever spent: The U.S. Air Guitar Regional Championships.

Fifteen air performers took to the stage to rock out to 60 seconds of the song of their choice. We saw the good (Slick Whiskers grabbing a girl in the front row and making out with her mid-song), the bad (the middle-aged office drone strumming his acoustic air guitar to Simon and Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound”), and the ugly (lots of revealing, too-tight, metallic leggings). Crowd favorite Buck Nasty (watch his previous awesomeness here and here) faltered in the second round and was no match for Big Rig and Stryker, dueling twin brothers from Denver. In the end, Stryker pulled out a thrilling victory over Buck by 0.1 of a point. Striker will represent Dallas and join 13 other regional winners at the national championships in New York this August. Our American champion will then go on to Finland for the World Championships.

The tour continues tonight at the Parish in Austin, and Friday night in Houston at Scout Bar. Host and former champ Bjorn Toroque would love to see you there. Go. Make your fingers into that little devil sign. Rock.
