RE: WHY PEOPLE DON’T LIKE US

|

A Belo-working ink-stained wretch weighs in with a fair defense.

I sit very close to Matthew.  Unfortunate choice of words and juxtaposition
of “Pretty cool” and “murder-suicide of a 3-year-old boy and his father.”

But he is a good, young reporter.  He wasn’t excited a severely disturbed
man snapped or that he took his son with him. Nor was he looking for fame or
fortune.  He was excited because he loves journalism and he finally got to
be a real-life, grown-up reporter.  The front-page byline was proof for him
that he can be a successful journalist.

He was probably so excited about his accomplishment (again, not the
tragedy), he didn’t think about how it would appear to sullen, salty
industry folks or people other than the other interns.

Actually, talking with the man’s ex-wife, and hearing about the guy’s
problematic history was a sobering experience, it seemed.
