Moving on to magazine awards that actually have merit, the National Magazine Awards are upon us. Simon Dumenco over at Ad Age singles out Texas Monthly as being slighted. Yes, it’s up for General Excellence. But Dumenco says TexMo, as he calls it, should be up for feature writing, photography, design, and more. He blames Evan Smith for not kissing up to the Manhattan judges enough. Somehow, I can’t imagine Evan puckering up.
In other locally relevant NMA news, Dumenco wonders how and why Beliefnet.com has been nominated over the years. Wonder if Rod Dreher’s contributions have anything to do with it.
