2006 KATIES: A CALL FOR RESUBMISSION

By Rod Davis |

Good for Glenn Hunter. The PR-heavy and possibly crony-laden Katies have needed a serious overhaul for many years, but the 2006 awards, well-chronicled by the Dallas Business Journal, clearly make the entire process bogus. The Press Club is trying to sort out the extent of the irregularities, but one thing is certain. The 2006 awards should be thrown out lock stock and statue.

Either scrap them completely–no awards for that year at all–or resubmit all entries to a new, and actual, judging committee from a respected journalism department. Not even an asterisk  by the 2006 awards can remove the taint unfairly and unfortunately now covering them.

Even that may not be the end of it: Wick says the club should be shuttered, if it is not already dead. Tim (who won a 2006 Katie) will follow with supporting evidence that your eyes should definitely read.
