SCHOOL VOUCHERS: WHY THE DAY WILL EVENTUALLY COME

|

More research keeps coming in, and it keeps showing that school choice not only helps poor students but also forces poorly performing schools to improve in order to compete. Rich students already have school choice, and rich school districts have to compete to get them. Here’s a fact you didn’t know: despite paying very high property taxes and despite having one of the best public school districts in America, aproximately 18 percent of students in the Park Cities go to private schools (the actual figure is 27 percent but that includes pre-school). Why shouldn’t kids in South Dallas, or East Dallas for that matter, have the same choice as kids in the Park Cities? After all, DISD spends more per student than HPISD does, so there’s easily enough dollars to pay tuition at, say, the local parish school.
