Veuve, the new restaurant in the old Lombardi Mare spot, has changed its name to Vue. Guess the folks at Veuve Clicquot weren’t happy. Anywhoo, no matter what they call it, I call it bizarre. When I ate there on a Thursday night, we were the only two people in the dining room. We were dwarfed by a replica of the Fontana di trevi jutting out of the center wall. The name now means “view” in French. The menu “pampers the senses and engrosses diners with the feel of Europe and the Mediterranean.” The adjoining bar, 972, is a G-rated version of the Milk Bar in Clockwork Orange. “Although the name change is not ideal, this does give us a chance to re-introduce the restaurant with the final touches complete,” say proprietors Stephen Williams and Steven Maatouk in a recent press release. I’m filing this under “Any publicity is good publicity.” From this view, it looks like they’re gonna need it.
