SAN FRANCISCO DUDE NAMED NEW DINING CRITIC AT NEWS

|

The announcement was made in an e-mail from Leslie Snyder, the paper’s arts editor:

I’m pleased to announce that Bill Addison is our new dining critic and editor.

Bill currently is a dining critic at the San Francisco Chronicle, specializing in ethnic cuisine. He has won several restaurant criticism awards from the Association of Food Journalists and was nominated for a James Beard Award for a series on Southern chefs that he wrote while dining critic and editor for Atlanta’s leading weekly. His knowledge and passion for food is extensive. Beyond his five years as a dining critic, he earlier spent seven years in the trenches as a pastry chef, restaurant manager, researcher and caterer.

Bill will shape our dining coverage as lead critic as well as assign and edit our free-lance dining critics. He will report to assistant arts editor Mike Maza. His first day will be Feb. 12.

We have been very fortunate to have Kim Harwell handling dining editing and reviewing duties since September, and envision a smooth transition. Kim will continue as a valued free-lance dining critic.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the job, Nancy.
