CHARTER TO CUSTOMERS: “NO HD WFAA FOR YOU”

|

A novel-writing FrontBurnervian says he got an interesting letter from his cable provider yesterday:

As of January 4, Charter will no longer provide high-definition broadcasts from WFAA because: “Belo demanded that Charter Communications begin paying them a fee for the station’s HD signal, which is broadcast over the public airwaves for free. Charter believes that making customers pay extra for local HD channels which are publicly broadcast for free is not serving the public’s best interest.”

I am sure there are two sides to the story. Like why is Charter having this issue with WFAA but not the NBC or FOX affiliates? And, why doesn’t Charter carry the other free local HD broadcasts? Normally, I would be all over Belo on this except that after years of dealing with Charter, I’ve concluded that the company is a festering sore on the buttocks of society.
