DISD CHRISTMAS PLAYS

|

DISD elementary schools had their Christmas plays last night across town. I took in the bill at Reinhardt Elementary near Casa View and was truly amazed at how top-rate the production turned out (when I was in 3rd grade in College Station, I can only recall a disaster). Of course, my granddaughter Moriah was one of the stars, no bias. I’d say the audience in the auditorium was 95 percent Latino, mostly blue-collar, and yes, Mark Davis and Tim O’Hare, many were undocumented. Who cares? These were some of the nicest people I’ve ever been around, well-behaved, respectful, friendly, absolutely doting on their children’s performances. We tend to forget in all this “illegal immigrant” bashing how much emphasis Mexicans and Mexican Americans place on family values.

And tolerance. The program included an Asian dance and songs celebrating not only Christmas but also Kwanza and Hanukkah. A delightful evening, exactly in the spirit of the Spirit. Back to you, Preston Hollow.
