SWISS SALE

|

A curious FrontBurnervian headed to Swiss Avenue for the estate sale of the year (so far)–that of Mary Ellen Bendtsen.

Just wanted to report in from the big estate sale at 4949 Swiss that began this morning at 9 a.m. It’s the mansion from the DMN’s series of stories on the house and the groups fighting over it in court. Got there 20 mins before the sale started and ended up 154th in line. By the time I got into the house, they were at over 350 people and they’re still coming. The house is creepy, musty and falling apart. The whole place was like an antique store. It seemed everyone there had read the stories from the paper, and if you hadn’t read them they were posted up on the front of the house. I was just looking for a piece of it to take home (found a fancy old telephone). The line to check out was almost as bad as the line to get in. It was pretty much a three-hour ordeal all together. I guess I wasn’t the only one intrigued by that fascinating, dark story…

Nope. Guess not. DO‘s Jim Schutze was among the masses as well. Herewith, his thoughts.
