HORSE SLAUGHTERING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD?

|

From a horse-loving Frontburnervian:

Tonight on “Nightline” Horse Slaughter: America’s Dirty Little Secret. Did you know that two of the three remaining slaughterhouses that kill horses for food are right here in our backyard? They are Bel-Tex in Fort Worth and Crown in Kaufman, and tonight’s “Nightline” will have footage from the Kaufman plant. The city of Kaufman has been trying to shut the plant down for years, but since it is owned by a Belgian interest and all the meat goes to Europe for consumption, they have been able to circumvent the city ordinances and state laws by claiming a right to interstate commerce.

On Thursday, Congress will vote on HR 503, a bill that would ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption and would finally shut down these to horse-killing factories.

But then where will we get our dog food?
