I just stumbled upon this subculture a few days ago, and my knee-jerk answer to your question ‘why Popular Mechanics?’ is that a lot of the theories revolve around just how the Twin Towers collapsed that day–so the conspiracies, it seems, have spawned a load of amateur engineers arguing about buckling I-beams and the like. Sort of like the amateur economists and energy analysts that flock to the peak oil theory.
Peak oil is a conspiracy theory too?
