RE: BUYOUT ANYONE?

|

A sports-writing FBvian at the DMN doesn’t think my posts to jack up the morale of the endangered staffers are exactly working the way I hoped. Jump for more.

What is it with you? Were you that badly burned by the newspaper industry that you have no feelings for those of us who are still proud to call ourselves journalists and who are genuinely suffering through the second set of very difficult circumstances?

Your posts on the DMN read like a teenager laughing at a car wreck. Yeah, things are bad. Very bad. Some of us are considering what else we can dowhen our life’s passion may be slipping away from us. Your posts readlike you are gleeful that its happening to somebody other than you. Well, your posts read like those of a puny, petty man taking pleasure in other people’s pain. It’s ridiculous. The tenor of the posts on the DMN‘s situation have taken Frontburner’s tone from snarky to just mean-spirited. And that’s a shame. I used to read it to get a laugh (or get some keen insight into the restaurant biz from Nancy).

What you are doing is not going to change what is happening at our place; all it’s doing is making people more nervous and more anxious by the minute. I’m not proud that we’re going to lose any number of people, but you’ve been reporting (I use that term very lightly) more than 100 for more than a month. I noticed that yesterday when the official release came out and the number was listed at 85, there was no mention of that in your “coverage.” I know your response: You’ll believe 85 when you see it; well, then don’t report 110 or 120 or whatever the number until you see that, too.

The way you presented your time at Louie’s last night seemed to indicate a
guy very interested in listening on others’ gloom and doom, but it sure sounds like you couldn’t even offer a handshake or a round of beers with the message: “Brothers, I feel your pain.” Are you that numb? (Oh, I know: You boldly wrote that we should all step up and take the buyouts with Pancho Villa-esque defiance. Yeah, thanks. I’ll consider those words.)

So there it is. You want emotional response. You got one. I’ve tried and tried to consider the folks at “D” brethren. But YOU aren’t. You aren’t funny, snarky, creative or interesting. You are mean and taunting. Hope you are enjoying the ride.
