A week later in multiple newsroom meetings, the No. 2 and No. 3 editors in rank told staff the publisher was, ah, wrong. They said 85 was the starting point all right, and Belo wanted the newspaper to lose approximately $8 million from its payroll. The math points to the newsroom being cut by triple digits.
