That’s the question at the center of this 6,800-word exposé on TexasGigs.com. Mark Cuban’s TV network filmed an Old 97’s benefit concert for Cunniff, the man who was beaten at the Gypsy Team Room. Then video from that concert (of other bands, not the 97’s) wound up on Amazon.com–without the knowledge of the bands and without, apparently, any of the proceeds going to Cunniff. It all appears to be legal, given the far-ranging contracts that HDNet has bands sign. And that gets to another central question of the TexasGigs story: what, exactly, is Mark Cuban planning to do with the library of music he’s amassing?
It’s good reading for anyone in the entertainment-slash-new media biz.
