WHY WE SHOULD APPRECIATE THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS

This NYTimes story (from Saturday) relates the efforts of civic leaders in Los Angeles, Baltimore, and most recently and successfully, Philadelphia to return their hometown newspapers to local ownership. For all the grief we give the Morning News, things could be much, much worse–its heirs could have sold out to Gannett or another chain years ago. Business people here still lament the loss of our banks, and that was 20 years ago. Where would Dallas be without local ownership of our monopoly daily? To find out, read the Times story. It made me so sentimental that I think I’ll refrain from saying one negative thing for an entire day.
