Incoming SMU basketball coach Matt Doherty made his first hire today: Lance Irvin, who used to coach at Missouri and Texas A&M (though, presumably, not at the same time). I asked my b-ball-knowing brother-in-law if he knew anything about Irvin. Here’s what he said:
Yeah, I coached with him at A&M. He is great. I have seen him a couple times since he got hired. Dad and I had lunch with him 2 weekends ago. He will do a great job. Has really good ties with Chicago, and his dad works for Adidas. He will do good. Great person.
