A DMN reporter we respect offers this on the Great Diving Board Controversy:
1) You get your story to print/broadcast/web first, you get to call it an exclusive until somebody follows.
2) You get your story by digging through stuff/finding people that The Man (The Person?) doesn’t want you to see/talk to, you should generally get some credit from the next reporter. Sez I, speaking strictly for my own self.
3) You get a story first that anyone can fall over by walking near a public pool and you’re entitled to twit the next guy by pointing out you got it first. A healthy nyaa-nyaa-nyaa. But credit?
Agree up until 3. If the story was so easy to find, how come it took until mid-June, well into swimming season, for it to show up in the paper? IJS. But it’s water under the board at this point. So I’ll settle for a “nyaa-nyaa” on Tim’s behalf.
