Tonight the Carolina Hurricanes almost sipped from Lord Stanley’s Cup. While the rest of Dallas partied down at the Monk and various Mav pep rallies, I was most likely the only person in the city who watched the Carolina-Edmonton game. (That would be hockey.) Going into the game tonight played in NC, the Canes led the final series 3-1. The match up was terrific, especially the third period when the Canes put on a frenetic end-to-end display. But the horn sounded at the end of regulation time with the score tied 3-3. Entering OT, Carolina had the Mighty Mo but, at 3:31 in OT, Oiler right-winger Fernando Pisani took advantage of a brutal Carolina giveaway in their defensive zone and scored on a short-handed breakaway. What a game. Now it’s back to Edmonton for game six on Saturday, which, as any Tim Horton’s lovin’ fan knows, is Hockey Night in Canada. Go Mavs and Oilers.
