RON PRICE: LIAR

By Tim Rogers |

I watched Channel 8’s newscast last night and have a couple of points to make. Let’s jump!

Big ups to Allen Gwinn. The DISD gadfly has been hounding Ron Price for having roughed up his wife and, more recently, having thrice lied in his Woodrow Wilson High commencement address. Last night, Channel 8 picked up the story. Boffo. But I wonder:

1. Why did Channel 8 go all pansy on us and use the phrase “bend the truth” instead of the more forthright and helpful term “lie”? Come on, Brad Watson. Report the news like you’ve got a pair.

2. Why didn’t Channel 8 report the worst Ron Price lie of the bunch, that he claimed to have served as a president of the State Board of Education? Allen Gwinn served it all up for them on his site. Heck, there’s not even such a thing as the “president” of the State Board of Education. Even the Observer knows that.

3. Where’s the love? This was Allen Gwinn’s story. Allen Gwinn went through all the rigamarole of filing the open records requests with DISD to get the video of Ron Price lying. Allen Gwinn broke the news. So give Allen Gwinn credit. Repeat after me: “As first reported by DISD watchdog Allen Gwinn on his web site, …”

Okay, now, one more thing about Channel 8’s newscast, and then I’ll let you go. What is up with the dual weather dudes? For the past couple weeks, Pete Delkus and Troy Dungan have been co-doing the weather every night. Actually, Pete Delkus, Troy Dungan, and Troy Dungan’s gold Rolex have been doing the weather. Does it really take two men and a piece of jewelry to tell us if it’s going to rain tomorrow?
