A political-savvy Frontburnervian notes this sentence from Rufus Shaw’s polemic over on Dallasblog.com:
“Unfortunately, those of us close to this story believe SMU is guilty of the insulting maneuver called “negro shopping.” By ignoring the advice of Black political leaders already trying to help SMU solve its racial woes, SMU sought to find some Black folks to talk to as a “photo op” thus giving whites the impression SMU is really trying to reach out to the Black community.”
She comments:
The problem was the they didn’t “shop” with him. Rufus is among a group who feel they are the black community. Unfortunately, as a result, black leadership is stagnant–giving us such lights as Teri Hodge and Ron Price.
Observant, crisp, and correct.
