Going through the mail at my house last night, watching the Mavs cream the Griz (too early to start planning the parade?), when I came across a letter from my insurance company. On the front was written “EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS.” The dreaded EOB. I hate these things. I can never understand them. They are obviously designed to be confusing. So I open it with a heavy heart. And what do I find inside? A subscription solicitation from Texas Monthly. Except on the inside it’s labeled “OFFER OF BENEFITS.” Upon closer inspection of the envelope, I see it came from none other than Evan Smith, editor of that fine publication. Here’s a lousy scan of the envelope.
So, um, deceptive marketing much?
