Should Her Honor the Princess of Preston Hollow take comfort in Saturday’s election in New Orleans, in which the incumbent was able to hold on for another term?
Not likely, since Ray Nagin’s victory was largely the result of increased turnout from African American voters, who supported Nagin by 80 percent, and swing votes from white precincts. In Dallas, the incumbent mayor has 1 vote from the four predominantly African American precincts, her political appointee and Best and Only Black Friend Betty Culbreath.
But you can bet the election stats are being closely studied.
