A guy named Victor Lissiak has a piece up over at DallasBlog.com arguing that Love Field should be shuttered and instead redeveloped. You know: condos, shops, etc. I talked to assistant city manager Ryan Evans about this concept last week. He dismissed the idea so quickly that I didn’t even bother posting it at the time. In short, Lissiak’s math doesn’t work. It fails to take into account all the businesses that depend on the airport, businesses that contribute to the tax base. And it overlooks the fact that kicking out Southwest and other Love tenants would mean buying their buildings, which would cost hundreds of millions of dollars. In short, according to Evans, it ain’t gonna happen.
